  • This indicator measures the percentage of people entering selected recreation sites via different travel modes and is monitored every four years.
  • Baseline data for Summer Travel Mode to Recreation Sites has been collected for only one year so far, 2006. Similar data was collected through a Basin-wide household travel survey conducted in 2005. This household travel survey differed from the summer travel survey in that it surveyed residents only, and it asked about general recreational travel, not travel to specific sites.
  • In 2006, a monitoring program was established for this indicator that gathers data by intercepting and surveying residents and visitors as they enter recreation sites around the Basin. Since summer and winter travel mode share could vary substantially, this indicator is measured and reported on separately for both the summer and winter. No quantitative benchmark or goal has been developed for this indicator, although a qualitative goal of an increase in the percentage of non-auto mode travel over time has been stated.
  • These survey reports are available on the TIIMS website, www.tiims.org.
